Joy in the Guild, 19th October 2008 (Fontwell)

Good Evening Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting this report, but here goes.

Tim, Steve and I made our way to a sunny Fontwell Park on Sunday, and on our arrival met up with Kath and Liam at the O/T ticket office.

After the hello's, we made our way to the O/T Bar, where Paul, Dianne, Martin and Melanie had secured a table in a corner of the bar area. After a brief chat, the three of us settled ourselves in the conservatory area of the bar and enjoyed a drink while we pondered our race cards and awaited Molly's appearance in the first race.

Stuart and Judy very cleverly worked out that we would be in or near the Bar, and joined us shortly after, assuring us that Molly was fine and had travelled well. Time was ticking along so we placed our bets and headed for the parade ring. Molly looked serene as always as she was paraded by Tim Kittow and it wasn't long before we were joined by Nick Schofield, and it was time for the off.

Most of us made our way to the O/T viewing area, which in hindsight was probably a mistake as the vantage point was not the best possible, because the stand lays back a little and we found the view of the track very limiting until the finishing straight.

Molly went off and Nick settled her at the back of the pack as Stuart had instructed. At the start of the second circuit she began to pick her way steadily through the pack and at the final bend was laying 5th or 6th, despite making a slight mistake at one of the latter hurdles. As the runners approached the final hurdle Molly had secured 4th place, but was unable to catch the first three horses.

When Molly and Nick returned to the winners enclosure, Nick advised that the ground was quite wet at the back straight, and that Molly had received a few knocks on the bends, and she was running at one pace throughout the race. Stuart's opinion was that she hadn't given all and had certainly saved something for herself, and given her relaxed stance on returning, this certainly seemed to be the case.

Stuart has suggested perhaps giving her one more race, either a seller or claimer (weather permitting), and would think of using a visor next time to sharpen her up.

As I have already posted, Stuart did confirm that Molly has some knocks and bruises following the race, so we will have to see how she heals before deciding on another race.

Bye for now,

Jackie
