Joy in the Guild, 16th July 2008 (Worcester)

Hi there all.

Jayne and myself arrived at Worcester on a not very sunny night and after getting our owners badges made our way to the owners bar to meet up with our fellow guilders. We then took about 15 minutes to get served in a crowded bar and met up with Simon, Kath, Russ and friend. Also Tim and Jackie.

The night started off well with the first winner being trained in Wales! After the first race we bumped into Stuart and Judy whom we had not seen for a long time. Stuart informed us that Derek and Sue`s horse Sir Ike was a non-runner at Kempton.

Things were now looking good when the second race was won by our neighbour Tim Vaghan, another victory for Wales! Stuart informed us that Molly was very well and was carrying a bit of condition which she had on occasions even when she had won before.

We then proceeded to the pre-parade ring to look at Molly where we met Tim on the winners plinth practising for our big moment! We now saw Molly before she got saddled up and by golly she looked a picture. Now we made our way to the parade paddock where we met Deb and friend and Debs children. We assembled together with Stuart and Judy where we met our jockey Paddy Brennan who had ridden two winners for Stuart in recent races.Stuart gave final instructions and off Molly and Paddy both went onto the course for the race.Myself and Jayne went into the crowded owners bar to watch the race on TV. We bumped into an old friend Mike Ruddock who now coaches Worcester rugby club and watched the race together.

The race was now on but Molly was always racing at the rear of the field and never looked like winning and finished 8th of 11! As soon as the race was over we got on to the track along with Stuart and Judy to await Paddys comments.Paddy jumped off and with a face like a cheshire cat proceeded to tell us that Molly would come on a lot for this and to run her again and the next time increase the trip. Make no mistake he was emphatic that she would impove a lot! He said that don't think he was mad but she would get better.

We then met up with everybody and told them what Paddy had said. Jayne and myself said our goodbyes and made our way to see our friend Christian Williams the jockey who was riding in the next race, but only finished 5th.

Now we made our way home before the last race for our two hour journey. We had a lovely time and it was so nice to meet our fellow guilders whom we had not seen for a long time. When we got back we watched the race on the internet attheraces.co.uk and having watched it several times I have mixed feelings on what Paddy said to us.

Good bye all from Alun and Jayne
